Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park

California // 24 November

Our campsite was closest to the Kings Canyon entrance to the National Park through still about 45mins drive and several thousand feet in elevation further up into the Sierra Nevadas. The change is temperature caught us out, it was about 5 degrees once we arrived in the National Park! We were not dressed for the cold. There was even snow on the ground in some spots which thrilled the kiddos but it was very chilly. Just entering the National Park the sequoias were huge and smelled amazing.

General Grant Tree… There was a short trail through immense trees to see the General Grant Tree.

General Sherman Tree… The trail to the General Sherman Tree was very popular. We got a few funny looks as Robin and the kids were in shorts. It’s a downhill path through the forest to the General Sherman tree then a steep uphill back so that helped to warm us up. The General Sherman tree is the main attraction as it’s the biggest but all of the sequoias are stunning.

Moro Rock Loop and Tunnel Tree… We drove the loop through the forest past Moro Rock and to the Tunnel Tree (a fallen tree with a tunnel carved that you can drive a car through). The drive was very picturesque through the misty trees. We didn’t do the Moro Rock trail as the fog was very thick. We had a few glimpses of blue sky during our day but mostly we were shrouded in mist.
