Voluisa County, Florida // 4 June
There are lots of natural springs north of Orlando and I was keen to check some out. Robin spotted De Leon Springs on our drive back from Crescent City (we took a different route from our journey there as we were exploring). It was a warm day and I’d packed our swimmers just in case. I’d heard that the spring waters are the same temperature all year round, though soon discovered that this was about 20 deg Celsius! The water was super clear and refreshing. There is a man-made swimming hole with the spring source in the middle-ish. Around the edge it’s about a metre deep and then gets deeper towards the spring inlet which is about 9 metered deep. There were people snorkelling and some even scuba diving. You could feel the current of the spring when you swam near it. From the swimming area there was a waterfall into the river and people fishing, kayaking and boat trips on the river. The old mill is a pancake restaurant which is obviously super popular as there was a 2hr wait. We explored, had our swim and kept back on our journey back to Tampa. Such a cool spot, the huge trees were amazing, and fun to see lots of people out enjoying the spring.
