Daytona Beach

Day trip from Crescent City // 9 June

Swimmers ready, we headed to the seafront at Daytona, the section where are cars were allowed on the beach. We didn’t want to drive our car on the beach but were keen to see who did. It turned out to be a special truck event that weekend (it was Friday) and there were soooo many trucks all with music pumping and strangely with their front wheels jacked up higher than their back wheels. There was not much beach as the tide was in but plenty of trucks and even just normal cars were cruising along less than a metre from people relaxing on the beach.

The ocean was warm and super flat. We were keen for a swim. We wandered up further to the car-free part of the beach. We also found a nearby place for lunch which was NASCAR-themed with tons of memorabilia to check out. We wandered through a few touristy beachside shops and found ourselves an umbrella as some shade was definitely needed on the beach. The water was lovely!

After our beach time we also checked out the Daytona1 area near the huge NASCAR stadium – it was enormous! We also sheltered in the Bass Pro Shop while an afternoon storm passed over. The storm cells here are isolated but impressive!
