Dolgeville, New York // 4-6 August
Another two night stop on our travels west. Spruce Creek Campground was lush and quiet. The creek was swollen to the top of its banks due to recent rain and flooding upstream. It calmed down a lot in just the two days we were there. Tubing would be fun when it’s a little calmer. There were baby birds in the corner of the camp shelter/camp kitchen. We kept our distance as mum and dad would fly off whenever anyone approached, causing the babies to squawk like crazy.
We visited nearby Little Falls which is a small town along the Erie Canal. The Canal has huge historical significance as it connects Lake Erie with the Hudson River in New York City, enabling trade and transportation. It was completed in 1825 and is still navigable today. Little Falls has one of the highest locks along the Erie Canal. It was pretty impressive! There’s also a hydroelectric plant before the lock which is listed for its historic significance as it was built in 1910!
