Glacier National Park – Going-to-the-sun Road

St Mary and Logan Pass, Montana // 12 September

We headed into the park early-ish (for us) but not early enough judging by the cars already on the Going-to-the-sun Rd. This was the first week that timed entry reservations were not required (as the season had ended on 10 Sept) but the weather was clear and sunny and there was lots of visitors to the park. Driving was no issue as everyone meandered taking in the views but it was super tricky getting a park at the trailheads. We unfortunately didn’t get to visit Logan Pass Visitor Center which was disappointing as we wanted to do a hike from there. The carpark was full both times we passed by. There were lots of other overlooks that we did get to stop and explore. We finally got a park at our third hike option, and did a gorgeous hike at St Mary Lake on the Three Falls trail.

The views from Going-to-the-sun Rd were breathtaking. As it was late summer the snow caps had fully melted which made it easier for glacier spotting.

The hike at St Mary lake was amazing, we passed a couple of small falls and stopped at a small beach. The water was so clear – and chilly!
