Nevada // 2, 3 November
Nighttime drive down the Strip…. On our first night we took a drive down the Strip to take in the Vegas lights and sounds. The lights are pretty overwhelming and the traffic on the Strip is crazy. Four lanes of traffic each way, crawling along generally revving and showing off their fancy cars. So many mustangs, convertibles, hummers, monster trucks and limos. We drove through the Strip then down to Downtown and back again. Certainly gave us a first taste of Vegas.
The Strip by day… Our first day out exploring we parked at the Bellagio and walked down the Strip to the Venetian, then back to the Bellagio as we had tickets to see O that evening. The number of people out and about was astonishing. Walking the streets, in the casinos – crazy.
The Bellagio… All the casinos had their fall/Thanksgiving decor in full swing. The Bellagio was definitely the most impressive.
Bellagio fountains and the Mirage… We got a glimpse of the fountains from a side entrance to the Bellagio. Unfortunately the fountains had been obscured from the Strip by the Grand Prix temporary grandstands.
The Venetian… It was a bit tricky to navigate with all the infrastructure being set up for the upcoming Grand Prix. There was scaffolding for lights all along the strip and temporary grandstands being constructed everywhere. We had an amazing lunch in one of the restaurants in the Venetian, where Claire had her the fanciest smoothie ever.
O… Cirque du Soleil is a must in Vegas! The theatre was huge and the water stage and effects were so impressive.
