Linville Falls and the Blue Ridge Parkway

Marion, North Carolina // 9 July

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic road that runs from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Shenandoah National Park, along the mountain ridge. As it’s approx. 470 miles long, and a small, windy, scenic road we didn’t make it our main route. Instead we stopped at three locations along the way. There’s access point so we did small sections near our sightseeing spots. From the Smokys we headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center near Asheville, then Linville Falls, one of the lowest points and most popular falls on the parkway. We stopped for a one night stay at Buck Creek RV Park which was gorgeous, a spacious campground along a rushing creek. We drove a beautiful section on the parkway on the way back from Linville Falls. Luckily we had dropped off the cavarvan at the campsite already because the sort, straight-looking drive from the parkway back to the campsite turned out to be quite treacherous. It was super steep and windy, no way we’d get down that road towing anything! Strangely there were people jogging up the steep road, must be a renouned training route!

Linville Falls… There are three different view points you can hike to to see the falls, we did two of them which were only short (less than 2 miles each) before we had to head home for the kids to log onto school. The Azaleas grow wild – so pretty!

Buck Creek RV Park… There were gorgeous swimming holes but unfortunately we didn’t get to take a dip. It was the kids’ first night of school and we got back just in time.
