San Francisco – Alcatraz and city sightseeing

San Francisco, California // 5 December

We caught the ferry across the bay to explore San Francisco for the day. First on our list was Alcatraz, another short ferry ride. Afterwards we stopped by Pier 39, then jumped on the historic cable cars to explore. What a gorgeous city! With all the other stops on our travels I had underestimated San Francisco. Such a pretty city to spend a day in, lots to see and easy to get around. Alcatraz was definitely a highlight.

Driving over the Golden Gate Bridge on our way to Vallejo… (photos from our arrival the day before)

Ferry from Vallejo Ferry Terminal…
The ferry ride was about 45mins and we went through heavy fog entering San Francisco Bay, then it cleared again. So strange how the weather changed so quickly.

Visit to Alcatraz… The ranger talks were really interesting and the kids found exploring the old prison pretty interesting.

City sightseeing… The bay mist had lifted around lunchtime so we had lovely clear skies for our afternoon exploring.

Riding the cable cars… Lots of fun and a little scary! The streets really are steep.
