Alamogordo, New Mexico // 15 February
A short drive out of Alamogordo, White Sands National Park is a striking feature as you turn off the highway. On the boarder of White Sands Missile Range, the stark white gypsum dunes spread 275 miles. The sand is super fine and cool to touch. We parked and headed into the dunes with our plastic sleds (courtesy of the RV park). As we left the carpark behind, you can see how you can easily lose your sense of direction. The dunes spread endlessly.

Sledding down the dunes is just as fun as it looks… though we found it can be quite a hard stop at the bottom! The dunes are surprisingly solid as the gypsum sand holds water. The area is a natural basin, keeping the sand dunes in this are. We got our fix of sledding and also did a nature walk featuring the vegetation that surprisingly grows here.
